About Daniel White

Census

  • 1800 Liberty, Marion District, 12 slaves

Not the same as Daniel White of Spartanburgh, SC. Not the same as Dr. Daniel White, V . Potentially American Revolutionary War soldier. Daniel White of South Carolina was paid, but which one, in Spartanburg or in Georgetown?

Name

  • Where is the Middle initial "D" attested? I have not found this anywhere.

Y-DNA match to Mayflower? Evidence for parents needed.

  • "two of our White cousins did the DNA tests and traced the line back to the Mayflower. I have a book entitled "Mayflower" by Nathaniel Philbrick using journals and other primary sources recording the history of the people and the journey and settlement at Plymouth. William White our ancestor and his wife Susannah and 5-year old son, Resolved, were passengers on the ship. Susannah was pregnant and gave birth to another son while the ship was anchored in the bay. This son, named Peregrine, is the progenitor from whom our White line descends. The DNA ties our Daniel to William of the Mayflower! Pretty exciting! Before this I couldn't trace any of our lines definitely earlier than the 1790 census in SC." - Dorothy Glover

Land

  • Plat of land. Plat For 587 Acres On Willow Swamp, George Town District, Surveyed By Lewis Perkins. Date: 7/1/1793. Neighboring: Simon Prickett, Stephan Prickett, Alexander Gregg. Willow Swamp has two branches of rivers in it, one being Pine Branch and Poplar Branch.
  • Other plats by Alexander Gregg owned land between Willow Creek and Jeffries Creek, today in Florence County, SC. See Willow Creek Baptist Church, Florence County, SC.

Will

  • Will recorded in Marion County, SC 1816.
  • Court case in Darlington County, SC in 1817 over the will with Gideon as defendant, meaning Daniel had died between 1816 and 1817. Court case went to state supreme court. Gideon lost.

According to this SC State Supreme Court case, our family went to court over a case that involved an extramarital affair and a fight over a slave. Sounds like Daniel White died in 1816/1817 and left a slave over to a white woman he was not married to. Sounds like she was long separated from her husband, but never divorced. She turned down Daniel White's advances until she bartered a slave out of him. After his death, Daniel's son Gideon wanted the slave back. The court ruled against him. She was able to keep the slave. https://books.google.com/books?id=mp0KAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA279&lpg=PA279&d...
