About Daniel van Ryneveld, SV/PROG
Daniel was the first van Rijnevelt to come to South Africa. He came from Amsterdam at the age of 20 in 1759, in the service of the Dutch East India Company.
He was appointed Landdrost at Swellendam in 1777
He lavishly entertained his visitors, such as Joachim van Plettenburg, then governor of the Cape with somewhat questionable funds received from selling brandy and wine.
