About Dato Temenggong Abdul Rahman Tun Abdul Hamid
Installed by Sultan Sultan Mahmud Ri'ayat Shah, at Lingga, before 11th March 1807. A staunch supporter of Sultan Husain over the claims of his half-brother, the Dutch candidate, 'Abdu'l Rahman. He befriended Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, by whom he was encouraged to settle in Singapore with Sultan Husain, where he was instrumental in arranging the cession of the island to the British on 6th January 1819. Granted the hereditary style of His Highness by the British 30th January 1819. He died at Teluk Belanga, Singapore, 8th December 1825 (bur. there at the Temenggong Mausoleum, Teluk Belanga Mosque), having had issue, two sons and four daughters:
