David Edmiston

1732. David Edmiston was on the Tax List in Cecil County this year, had 890 acres on Octorara Creek. West Nottingham Parish was partly in Cecil County, Maryland, and part in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He was born in 1700 and died Nov. 2, 1771. He married Margaret Donnell. They had: Martha, b. in 1733 who married Hugh Alexander in Cecil County, Maryland; Samuel, (1746-1816) who married Martha Blair; David, Jr., who died in 1809 in Elkton, Maryland, a wealthy bachelor who left property to nephews, sons of John and Samuel Edmiston of Abingdon, Virginia; Margaret who married ____Dennet and moved to N.C.; Elizabeth who married Samuel Edmiston, a cousin in Washington County, Abingdon, Virginia; Mary who married John Stephenson of Cecil County, Maryland; Hannah who married _____Scott of Maryland; Sarah who married John Edmiston of Abingdon, Virginia, a cousin, and had John Edmundson who was in Williamson County, TN, in 1810. The children of David Edmiston and Margaret Donnel were: 1. Martha born 1733-4, married Hugh Alexander as above.

2. Samuel, physician, born Jul 21, 1746, a graduate of Princeton College under Dr. Finley, and long a ruling elder in Fagg's Manor Presbyterian church; married Martha, daughter of Samuel Blair D.D. of said church in Chester county, died January 16, 1816.

3. David, long a ruling elder in Lower West Nottingham church, Cecil county, Maryland; a bachelor of considerable estate, whose will dates 1809, and is recorded at Elkton, Maryland.

4. Margaret married Mr. Donnel and went to North Carolina.

5. Mary married John Stephenson of Cecil county Maryland

6. Sarah married her cousin John Edmiston of Virginia

7. Elizabeth married her cousin Samuel Edmiston of Virginia

8. Hannah married a Mr. Scott of Maryland
