About Dafydd Hen Middleton, Receiver General for North Wales
The Myddelton family had been prominent in the affairs of North Wales since at least the fifteenth century. Robert Myddelton, the son of Rhirid ap David of Penllyn (alive 1393-1396), assumed the surname of his mother, Cecilia daughter and heir of Sir Alexander Middleton of Middleton in the parish of Chirbury, Shropshire. Robert's grandson David Myddelton was receiver-general for North Wales, during the reigns of Edward IV and Richard III. David's son Ffoulke Myddelton was governor of Denbigh castle, as was Ffoulke's son Richard Myddelton (c.1508-1575).
David Middleton, Esq., was born circa 1457 at of Chester, Cheshire, England.1 Died before 18 January 13 Henry Vll (1497/8)
He married Ellen Donne circa 1477 at Weaverham, Cheshire, England. (There seems a confusion with his son).

MIDDLETON, Roger, founder of a very distinguished family of his name at Gwaenynog, in Denbighshire, was born at Chester, and was the eldest son of David Middleton, receiver of Denbigh (in the reign of Edward IV.), by Elyn, daughter of Sir John Done, of Utkintou, Cheshire. There is a remarkable story related by Mr. Pennant, in relation to this couple. David Middleton had fallen in love with Elyn Done, but her father gave her away to Richard Done, his kinsman, and the marriage between them was duly solemnized, but Middleton, having had notice of this, watched the bridegroom emerging from the Church, "killed him on the spot, and then carried his mistress away, and married her the same day, so that she was maid, widow, and twice wife in one day." The reader must take this tale upon trust, but the fact of the second marriage is undoubted, and also that the Welsh family alluded to have descended from it.
David's son Ffoulke Myddelton was governor of Denbigh castle, as was Ffoulke's son Richard Myddelton (c.1508-1575).
