About David Dario Salas Valencia
David Dario Salas (July 22, 1872 - August 22 1937) was a dentist, pharmacist, optician, journalist, amateur actor, dramaturge, prose writer, poet, writer and editor born on Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles.
As a member of the 'Young Men's Hebrew Association' he participated in theater at a very young age and he also contributed to the Home Journal (1889-1891). He was (co) Editor of the El Ganimedes de las Damas (1893-1904); El Poema (1895-1895-1896), La Patria Venezolana (1898-1900); El Iris (1910-1911) and Boletin Comercial (?-1933). He published three collection of poems, two fiction and two plays.
Still there are no contemporary reviews concerning his work, only some short texts in the C.C., de Amigoe, De Vrijmoedige en de Curaçaosche Courier.
J.Terlingen characterized Salas' romantically versatility in retrospect with some reticent. All the other writers of the Antillean literature only mention Salas' name and at best mention some of his titles. Heuvel & Van Wel mention on behalf of Luis Daal that Salas' work is 'broader in the sense of inner structure' compared to that of J.S. Corsen, that he 'followed the Spanish tradition' in his theater work and that he was 'a poet of great refinement'.
