About David Theodore Andrews
My Grandfather, known as Pappy. David immigrated to Canada in June 1929 aboard the Letitia. He left his Mother Elizabeth, Brother James, and sisters Annie and Betty (Elizabeth) his Father had run off by this time. After arriving in Montreal on June 9, 1929 at the beginning of the Great Depression, the only work he could find was some farm work and road building, a talented carpenter, he built many homes in the Napanee area, mostly on the River Road, he was also a farmer, a market gardener with up to 5 acres of tomatoes, and acres of other vegetables grown for local restaurants and sale at the farm, he started with 14 dairy cows he milked by hand, and changing over to Hereford beef cattle when the government changed to milk quotas requiring expensive equipment, he enjoyed a good life with his son next door and daughter on the next farm. Everyone enjoyed his sense of humor, always a smile on his face, the life of the party, an avid reader, and loved his Irish music which he would blast on his stereo, great memories.
