About David Vance

David Vance (often written Vaunce by the first County Clerk) was one of the first settlers in Shenandoah Valley, VA bringing with him his family. David settled south of where Winchester VA now stands and reared a large family who intermarried with many prominent families: Glass, Hoge, White and others. Their descendants are found in VA, KY, TN, NC, and several western states (some becoming prominent in affairs of State and the Church). David was one of the justices forming the first court in 1743. (from Cartmell's History page 411).

1739-Northern Neck Warrants & Surveys, Volume I, Page 54. Signers (of interest) of a petition for a road from Just Hite's Mill to Ashbey's bent Ford on Shenandoah: Charles Barns, Joseph Colvin, John Macdowel, David Vance, James Vance, William Vance.

David Vance along with Morgan Morgan (in their capacity as Judges) administer oaths of office on 11/11/1743 to the first county administrators of Frederica Co., VA. Frederick Va was created out Orange Co., VA in 1738 and Orange was created by splitting out of the larger Spottsylvania Co., in 1720 (from Cartmell's History page18).
