DeBerry M. Medlin (some sources list him as John DeBerry Medlin, Jr.) was a son of John DeBerry Medlin and his wife Mahalia Richardson. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in Union County on 5 March 1861, age given as 18 (he was actually just 17), and served in Co. B, 15th NC Regiment, Confederate States Army.
DeBerry married Alcy Clementine Keziah (1845-1916) on or about 11 Jan. 1866. (I am not sure if that is the actual marriage date or the date of the marriage bond.) She was a daughter of Thomas Keziah and his wife Agnes Caroline Helms, of Union County. DeBerry & Alcy had a large number of children.
The children, as best I can figure, were: Thomas DeBerry Medlin (1868-1934, m. Matilda Jane Helms), Leander Medlin (Dec. 1869, d. before 1880), Dossa A. Medlin (1871-1952, m. Laura Elizabeth Chaney), Agnes Sarah Ellen "Aggie" Medlin (1873-1918, m. Raymond Mullis), Martha Louise Medlin (1874-1958, m. Jim Aycoth), Rachel Elizabeth Medlin (1876-?, m. William A. Dry), William M. Medlin (c. 1878-?), John Irvington Medlin (1879-1954, m. Nettie J. Deese), Mary Jane Medlin (1885-1965, m. Zeb Vance King), and Minnie M. Medlin (Aug. 1888-?). If I find more information, I will add it.
These graves were moved from the Medlin-Dry cemetery here in 1978. (Thanks to Ann Medlin Price & Julie Hampton Ganis for that information.)
