Birth: Jun. 13, 1746 Rochester Plymouth County Massachusetts, USA Death: Dec. 15, 1804 Wayne Kennebec County Maine, USA
Isaac Dexter, born in Rochester, Mass., prob 13 Jun. 1746*, settled in New Sandwich (now Wayne) in 1779 with his wife Keziah (Wing) Dexter and his sons, Stephen, Nathaniel, Freeman and Constant. His other sons, Gideon, Isaac Jr., and Amasa, were born in Wayne. He settled on Lot#148 on the pond now called Dexter Pond. Isaac built his home on the west side of the pond in Wayne since that portion of the lot was best suited for tillage. Isaac was a Baptist, and the early religious meetings were held in his barn. The Baptist church of Wayne was organized at his house on 9 Jan 1794, and he was chosen as one of the deacons. His wife, Keziah Wing, daughter of Nathaniel Wing, Jr and Mercy Handy, was born in Sandwich, Massachusetts 31 Dec 1746. She is presumably buried next to him though if she ever had a grave marker, it has long since vanished. It is claimed that Isaac built the first framed house in the town. In 1801 he was chairman of the board of selectmen; in 1802 he was collector of taxes. He died in 1804. He marched on the Lexington Alarm of 19 April 1775 and likely participated in the Battle of Saratoga. Dexter, Isaac, Sandwich. Sargent, Capt.
