The photo on the memorial listed as Demia Butler Todd, is not correct. This photo is of Demia (Butler) Townley. >>She was Scot's full sister who married George Ellis Townley. She was the first woman to graduate from Butler College with a full four year degree in the classics. Sadly, she died young just a year after her marriage in 1867. I have been unable to remove this photo at present.
Demia Todd (born Butler)
Mary "Polly" Norcross was born Nov 23, 1773 in Templeton, Worchester, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Daniel Norcross (1745–1825)and Thankful Sawyer Norcross (1747–1821) who had a twin brother, Elias Sawyer.
On Jan 27, 1794, "Polly" married Asa (Ora) Butler at Templeton 1st Congregational Church which was then called the Meeting House. They were married by Ebeneazer Sparhawk, Minister....
On Jan 16, 1811 Asa died at only just under 39 years old and was buried in Blackmer (Lairdsville) Cemetery in Westmoreland, Oneida co. NY.
Mary "Polly" married again almost two years later on Jan 12, 1813 to Asa's widowed brother, Chauncey (sometimes spelled Chancy) Butler.
