Dietrich David Tanner

The Danners, early settlers of Emmitsburg, resided in that community as it grew into a town, then a city for over a century. They owned property there, and they were instrumental in promoting its progress, both civically and financially, they attended its Lutheran and Presbyterian churches. About thirty Danner children were reared within its boundaries. While there, their lives encompassed three wars: the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the War between the States. The Danner family intermarried with the Agnews, the Gambles, the Crooks, and the Potterfields; with thirty Danner children.

Dietrich and wife Barbara Hauser were members of the Tom's Creek Lutheran Church. (Elias Lutheran Church was located at Tom's Creek from 1757 to 1797 - ed.) Barbara bore Dietrich seven children: (1.) Catherine Danner, married George Sr. Smith. (2.) Esther Danner. (3.) Margaret Danner, married George Sr. Smith. (4.) David Danner, married Anna Catherine Bonner. (5.) Jacob Danner Sr., married Rachel Brenton. (6.) Susannah Danner, married John Kalb. (7.) Mary Danner, married Frederick Hauser.

From Helman's p.12: David Danner settled at Bridgeport, where Correll lived. He is the head of the Danner family. His tomb is the oldest in the community, 1768. 

Settled in a community called Bridgeport, located between Taneytown and Emmitsburg in Frederick County. Dietrich and wife Barbara were members of the Tom's Creek Lutheran Church. (Elias Lutheran Church was located at Tom's Creek from 1757 to 1797 - ed.) Barbara bore Dietrich seven children: five daughters and two sons, Jacob and David, to carry on the Danner name. Dietrich died in 1768 and is buried in the Tom's Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Helman says his tome is said to be the oldest in the community.
