From the Browns of Nottingham:
Mercer married secondly 2mo 11th (April 11) 1728 to Dinah, daughter of John and Hannah Churchman. Mercer (generally written Messer) died about 1733, and his widow married in 1736 to Mordecai James, son of George James of Goshen. She was born 6mo 7th (August 7) 1699 and died 1mo 1st (January 1) 1766 (after 1752, the months revert to the same system in use today).

2. David, born about 1731, married 11mo 3rd (November 3) 1757 to Sarah, daughter of Joshua and Hannah Brown of West Nottingham. Second wife Elizabeth died 3mo 3rd (March 3) 1802, aged about 73. David died about 1781.
Notes: Dinah married Mercer Brown, Sr., son of William Brown and Anne Mercer (See Notes for John Churchman). Mercer Brown had 6 children by a previous marriage to Jane Richards. These children were Catherine, Hannah, Mercer Jr., Jane, Mary, and Ann. Mercer, Jr. later married and built a house near the center of his father's property that still stands near Calvert, Maryland.
SEE: http://www.churchman.org/Mercer_Brown_House.htm The Mercer Brown/Amassa Churchman house is located on England Dairy Road, Calvert, Cecil County, MD, near the Brick Meeting House. It is built on land which was at the center of a 490 acre lot originally purchased from William Penn by William Brown as a gift for his son, Mercer Brown, Sr. in 1701.
In 1746, Mercer Brown, Jr. and his wife Hannah built the brick portion of the house with help from their neighbors, who carved their initials and names in the brick at one corner of the house.
The log portion of the house dates from the 18th century and was built by Amassa Churchman, who married Mercer Brown, Jr.'s granddaughter.
The house is now owned by Ed Plumstead and has been occupied for 26 years by Todd and Betty Goodale. Together, they have done a magnificent job of restoring and maintaining this wonderful house.

Mordecai James's first wife was Gainor Lloyd. Gainor was born February 5, 1705 and died on September 3, 1728, only 18 months after they were married. Mordecai and Gainor had only one child, Hannah James. (Hannah also married into the Churchman family -- see George Churchman). Mordecai married Dinah on September 4, 1736. Their "residence was four miles south of Oxford and 2 miles northwest from Churchman Mansion near the head of the Dam belonging to the Mill of the Cate D. Stubbs." Mordecai and Dinah were married for 30 years before she died in 1766. Mordecai married a third time to Susanna Passmore on December 31, 1767. Mordecai "was a man of good understanding, useful in Meetings, and in the neighborhood". He "died in a quiet resigned state of mind after three days of severe illness with Colic".
