The following obituary for Don Hyrum Smith appeared in The Salt Lake Tribune on Friday, April 2, 1965, page B9: Don Hyrum Smith....Funeral services for Don Hyrum Smith, 47, 1185 Pacific Avenue (440 South) who was killed in a plane crash Wednesday, will be Saturday, 2 p.m., Pioneer LDS Stake Center. Friends may call at 260 E. South Temple, Friday, 6-8 p.m., at Stake Center Saturday, one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Redwood Memorial Estates. He was born March 12, 1917, Lethbridge, Albert, Canada, to Hyrum and June A. Bushman Smith. He married Naomi Stevens, October 2, 1940, in the Salt Lake city LDS Temple. He was an employee of Mountian States Bindery and a former co-owner of Utah Bookbinding Company. He attended Brigham Young University and was active in the LDS Church, Bishop of Thirty-fifth ward. Survivors include: widow; sons, daughters, Mrs. Glen A. (Amy Juen) Whellen, Jr., Lori, Rosetta, David Hyrum, Steven Jesse, Michael Don, Eric, Gina, all Salt Lake City; father, Salt Lake City; three brothers and three sisters.

He married 2 October 1940, Naomi Stevens, daughter of David Johnson Stevens and Mary Ann Johnson. She was born 22 October 1914, Texas. She attended BYU 3 years. Mission to Mexico 1936-38.
