Donovan Marais (1959 - 2013)

Brief overview:

Donovan (54), went missing on Wednesday 2nd January 2013 after he left his house in Pretoria North to go to work in Springs, on the East Rand. He was reported missing the same day.

On Saturday 5th, a Kia Sportage sedan was spotted by a passer-by in the bushes near the Mashishimale squatter camp in Phalaborwa, Limpopo province, and alerted the police. When police arrived, the vehicle's keys were still in the ignition.

A laptop, clothing and a box of ammunition were found on the car seat. It was established that the car belonged to Donovan.

A search by police from Namakgale and Makhado K9 units was launched Sunday late afternoon and Monday. Donovan's decomposing body was found on Monday 7th January around 12h30. Two half empty bottles of whiskey were found next to his body and R230 was found pinned on a tree.

The cause of death has not yet been established. An inquest docket was opened for further police investigations.
