I called her "Ma," not Bubbe as my mom asked me to. She was at our house every day so she was like a 2nd mom to us kids. My mom called her "Ma" so I insisted on the same, and my brother and sister who came later did likewise. She did not speak much English, so they chatted away in Yiddish. That's basically how I picked up the language. I used to see my dad's parents frequently and they also did not know much English so I learned from them as well. Ma was the sweetest person you could ever meet. She had a very hard life yet never complained. She would never say anything bad about anybody. Even as a simple and poor person, she would do things to help people. It's been a long time since she left this earth but I think about her often and miss her so much.
