Doris Marie Carlson, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Christian Homes Care Community, Holdrege. Doris was born January 29, 1922 in Loomis, Nebraska, the sixth of eight children born to Carl A. and Anna C. (Johnson) Carlson.
At an early age, Doris accepted the Lord as her Savior, which defined her life. She received her education from Loomis (NE.) Public Schools, where she graduated from Loomis (NE.) High School with the class of 1939.
Following her education, Doris was employed by Dr. T. A. Peterson office, Holdrege, Nebraska and then the Kearney Air Base during World War II. She then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she attended the Trinity Bible College residing there for eight years. The Lord led her back to Holdrege, Nebraska in 1949, to return to Dr. Peterson's clinic.
On March 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Carlson and to this union two children were born: Jeff and Judy. The family made their home on a farm north of Holdrege, Nebraska where Doris worked side-by-side on the farm with Bob and devoted her life to caring for the needs of their children. In 1977, Doris and Bob moved into Holdrege, Nebraska.
An important part of their lives were being active members of the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church, north of Holdrege, Nebraska and the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Holdrege, Nebraska after they moved into town. Doris enjoyed being involved in the music ministry which included playing the organ for many years at the churches she attended. She also enjoyed serving as Choir Director and teaching Sunday school. Her greatest joy was her family. Doris was a devoted wife and caregiver for her husband, Bob for many years during many health issues prior to his passing on January 18, 1995.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Melva Martin and her husband, Clifford, Lucille Dahlstedt and her husband, Carl and Lenore Carlson at four years of age; brothers, Carl Carlson, Jr. born at rest and Raymond Carlson and his wife, Ruth and brothers-in-law: Loren Hover and Douglas Ruediger.
Doris leaves to mourn her passing: children: Jeff Carlson and his wife, Jeanne of Holdrege, Nebraska and Judy Peterson and her husband, Scott of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren: Amber Larson and her husband, Joe of Loomis, Nebraska, Anna Sertich and her husband, Jacob of Kearney, Nebraska, Erin Carlson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Stewart Peterson and his wife, Ann of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jenna Bland and her husband, Evan of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Lenore and Ella Peterson both of Lincoln, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Emma, Adeline, Luke, Jeffrey, Samuel, Lucille, Cecelia, Tobias, and Evelyn; sisters, Doris' twin sister, Dorothy Hover of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Marjory Ruediger of Des Plaines, Illinois and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Doris Marie Carlson was conducted from the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones officiating.
Interment was in Moses Hill Cemetery, rural Phelps County, Nebraska.
