Dorothy Dayrell

• Dorothy Dayrell/Darell was the daughter of Paul Dayrell the elder.
• She married firstly to Walter Yonge. He had, according to his will dated 1551, three wives, Dorothy being the third. Walter also had at least three sons, but unfortunately it is not clear which of his wives were their mothers.
• Walter died in September 1555. Dorothy is referred to in the October 1555 will of her father Paul as "The Widow Yonge".
• Therefore Dorothy did not marry John Quarles until after October 1555 so could not be the mother of his eldest children.
• Dorothy & John Quarles had at least four children; Francis Quarles, Judith Quarles, Edward Quarles and John Quarles the younger.
• Dorothy died in January 1571 and was buried on the 10th January 1571 at St Peter Le Poer, London. In his will date 1577, John Quarles asks to be buried next to her.
• Dorothy is included in a now lost memorial at St Peter Le Poer; Heare lye Interred John Quarles late Citizen and Draper of London and Alice Dandley, Dorothy Darrell and Agnes Greenway, the wyves of the said John, whiche John died the twelveth daye of November 1577, Alice died the .... daie of 1532, Dorothy died the sixth daie of January 1570 and Agnes died the 12th daie of Aprell 1588, whiche Agnes was also the wyfe of John Howland, late Citizen and Salter of the said Citte.
