Many of these same Norfolk Hamon's also appear on the records in Clerkenwell, which is now a part of London but which was then just outside the city walls to the north. John Ham'ond, a grandson of Robert (by overwhelming circumstantial evidence) married Mary Allen and had six known children in Clerkenwell. One of these, Ambrose born in 1647, arrived in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia, on 26 March 1666. His father, John, married his second wife, Dorothy Latham, in Clerkenwell in 1669 and shortly thereafter followed his son Ambrose to Virginia. William Hammond, another native of Clerkenwell, and probably a cousin, had preceded Ambrose and John to America in 1652. The four, William, Ambrose, John, and John's second wife Dorothy, settled in what later became Caroline County, Virginia.
John Hammon was Married to Mary Allen for 14 years before she died. 4 of 6 children died prior to age 2. Eventually followed son (Ambrose) to America with second wife, Dorothy Latham (b. 1648 in VA, married John in London on June 22, 1669). May have travelled back and forth from America to London multiple times as agent of London businessmen. Children: James (died in infancy), Mary, John (died at age 2), Ann (died at 4 months old), Margaret (died in infancy), Ambrose.
