notes
"John Harris - John Harris was born about 1588-9 in Creeksea, Essex, England, subscriber of the Third Charter of the Virginia Company of London. He was residing in Charles City County, Virginia at West and Shirley Hundred on the 16th of February, 1623, with his wife Dorothy and two infants. In the census taken the 24th of February 1624-1625, John Harris does not show in the census because he was then in England. We know that John Harris was then in England because the Parish Registers of St. Dunston in the East shows, ?gent., of Virginia,? and Dorothy his wife, borne in the House of Edward Lymbry of Lyme House, Mariner, the same day baptized. General Notes: 'Callicott Connections' Vols. I-III by John T. Callicotte - Extracts
William Callicutt, the earliest known immigrant, joined the Jamestown Colony in 1608 shortly afer it was founded in 1607. William, who came on the second supply ship from England, was a goldsmith from London and was the first man to discover gold and silver in Virginia. He also assisted Capt. John Smith, leader of he Jamestown Colony in survey work .... (we know nothing of his descendants or spouse)
Hercules Calcott - In a History of the County of Isle of Wight we find this individual as signer of a petition to the County Commissioners in October 1677 for the release of William West, 'a rebel absconding, who took up arms against the Indians by whom his father had been most barbarously murdered, was taken prisoner and carried aboard ship, from hence to prison and was condemned to death but has made his escape and as yet has not been found'. Hercules is believed to be the direct descendant (son) of Sir Caeser Calclough (spelling variant evidenced in various Virginia Documents). Other sons of Sir Caeser were Major George Calclough and John.
