About Dorothy Major
Daughter of Henry Daniel Major and Mary Ursula Major (Alves). Sister of Maj. Henry Dewsbury Alves Major; Robert Rich Major and Arthur Cecil Major.
KATIKATI. On the morning of the 30th ultimo Mr Major's eldest daughter expired of ulcer of the brain at the residence of Mr Goss, where she was stopping on a visit. A large number of settlers attended the funeral which took place on Sunday afternoon at Church Hill, the Rev Canon Johnston conducting the service. Mr and Mrs Major have the sympathy of the whole block in their heavy bereavement.Surely this sad occurrence will bestir the cemetery trustees to have the burying ground fenced and sown in grass. A gentleman offered some time ago and is still willing to collect money for this much desired object, but was deterred on learning that there was a committee of settlers already appointed for that purpose. MAJOR - At Katikati on the 30th September, 1881, Dorothy, only daughter of H D Major, aged 8 years. Source: Bay of Plenty Times (7 October 1881, p. 2).
