April 2014: (from Carole Pomeroy) "I have searched through at least eleven pages each of Yahoo results and Google results for the children of Sir Edward Sutton, 2nd Baron Dudley and Cecily Willoughby, and the only published reference that I found Dorothy Sutton as being married to John Huddleston was A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Commoners of Great Britain and ... (1835) Vol. II

All others I found for listing Dorothy Daughter of Sir Edward Sutton, 2nd Baron Dudley and Cecily Willoughby do not list a husband."

• 12 EDWARD SUTTON (or DUDLEY), K.G., K.B., 2nd Lord Dudley, son and heir by his father's 1st marriage, born about 1457-60 (aged 26 in 1486; aged 28 or 30 in 1487), He married before 1489-90 (date of fine) CECILY WILLOUGHBY, daughter of William Willoughby, Knt., of Boston, Lincolnshire (descendant of King Edward I), by Joan (or Jane) (descendant of King Edward III), daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Strangeways, Esq. [see WILLOUGHBY 12.ii for her ancestry]. They had seven sons, John, Knt. [3rd Lord Dudley], Edward, Thomas, Arthur (clerk), George, Geoffrey, and William, and eight daughters, Margaret (wife of John Grey, Lord Grey of Powis, and Robert Sutton), Eleanor (wife of Charles Somerset, K.G., 1st Earl of Worcester, Lord Herbert), Jane (wife of Thomas Fiennes), Katherine (wife of George Gresley, Knt.), Elizabeth, Joyce (wife of John Leighton), Dorothy, and Constance. he was do-heir in 1485 to his 1st cousin, Edward Tiptoft, 2nd Earl of Worcester, 3rd Lord Tiptoft, by which he inherited the manors of Burwell, Cambridgeshire, Ryhall, Rutland, and Redlynch (in Downton), Wiltshire, which estates he sold in 1490 to Thomas Lovell, Knt. He subsequently assumed the title, Lord Powys, by virtue of his maternal descent from Edward Cherleton, K.G., 5th Lord Cherleton. He was summoned to Parliament from 12 Aug. 1492 to 3 Nov. 1529, by writs directed Edwardo Sutton de Dudley chl'r. He presented to the lower moiety of the church of Malpas, Cheshire in 1492, and to the upper moiety of the church of Malpas, Cheshire in 1502 and 1511. In 1506, as "Edward Sutton kt., Lord of Dudeley, otherwise Edward Sutton of Dudeley kt.," he was pardoned by the king for all intrusions etc. in the manor of Arrowstly, Kevelyok, Ddoythore, and LLanmarchudell, in the marches of Wales, Shropshire adjoining, or Wales. In 1522 he rented a house in Tothill Street, Westminter, and presumably resided there. SIR EDWARD SUTTON (or DUDLEY), Lord Dudley and Powys, died intestate 31 Jan. 1531-2. ....

  • i. JOHN SUTTON (or DUDLEY), Knt., 3rd Lord Dudley, son and heir, born about 1496 (aged 36 in 1532). He married (betrothal dated before 30 Oct. 1501) [LADY] CECILY GREY, daughter of Thomas Grey, K.G., K.B., 1st marquess of Dorset, Lord Ferrers of Groby, Harington, Bonville, and Astley, by Cecily, suo jure Lady Harington and Bonville, daughter of William Bonville, Knt., 6th Lord Harington [see GREY 16 for her ancestry]. They had four sons, Edward, Knt. [4th Lord Dudley], Henry, Knt., Thomas, and George, Knt., and three daughters, Margaret (wife of William Gibbons), Dorothy, and Elizabeth. He presumably resied in Tothill Street, Westminter. His wife Cecily was a Legatee in the 1527 will of her mother, Cecily Grey, Marchioness of Dorset. He succeeded his father in 1532, but was never summoned to Parliament, he being a "weak man of understanding." In 1533 he sold the manor of Oxley (in Bushbury), Staffordshire to James Leveson. In May 1537 he sold Dudley Castle, Staffordshire to his cousin, John Dudley, Knt., afterwards Duke of Northumberland. He subsequently became a pauper. SIR JOHN SUTTON (or DUDLEY), 3rd Lord Dudley, was buried with elaborate Roman Catholic ceremonies at St. Margaret's Westminster 18 Sept. 1553. His widow, Cecily, was buried there 28 April 1554. ....
