He moved with his family to Tarsus Township of Bottineau County, where he was educatioed. Entered US Army in 1945. After discharge, returned to North Dakota. In 1954, he moved to Glasgow, Montana and worked at Chevrolet-Buick garage, the Glasgow Air Force Base and Markels Hardware Store. Douglas ran his own grocery buisness for many years.

In 1960, he married Mildred Stebleton in Glasgow, Montana.

Survivors; wife, Mildred of Glasgow;, Montana mother Anna Bergeron of Bottineau, North Dakota; step sons, Frank Stebleton of Glasgow, Montana; and Gordon Stebleton of Glendive, Montana; nine grandchildre; 13 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Doris Fugere, Mrs Francis (Bernice) Cote and Mrs Oscar (Frances) Fugere, all of Bottineau, North Dakota.
