He was a physician in New Castle and Wilmington. He served as Surgeon in Caesar A. Rodney's Company in the WAR of 1812. He was one of the first Mayors of the City of Wilmington. For a number of years, he was a member of the Vestry of Old Swedes' Church and was one of the founders of Trinity Chapel. He was President of the Farmer's Bank, Wilmington, from 1824 to 1831. In 1831, he was made a Fellow of the Medical Faculty of Maryland. (per Leach's "Descendents")

After Catherine died, he married Anastasia Gertrude Pearce 26 Feb 1835 in Baltimore, MD.
