About Dr. Alpheus Morse
Vermont Historical Magazine, No. XI, October 1867, p 188 (extracted from a section on the history of Dorset, Bennington County, Vermont)
Deacon Ebenezer MORSE moved with his family from Harrington, Connecticut in 1774, and resided in Dorset [Bennington County, Vermont] until his death in 1822, at which time he was in his eighty-seventh year. He was an active Whig during the Revolution, being a member of the Committee of Safety from Dorset. He was also for many years deacon in the Congregational Church. His son, Dr. Alpheus MORSE, was a practicing physician in Dorset for some thirty years and then removed to Essex [Essex County], New York. He practiced here four years, and has since added twenty years of practice in the town of Jay [Essex County], New York, making in all fifty-four years of medical practice. He [Alpheus MORSE] is still living, and although nearly ninety years of age, his faculties until within a few months have remained quite unimpaired. He is now quietly awaiting his final change.
"Read medicine with Dr. Maine of Dorset, VT. Received his di ploma July 18, 1800."
