MAZOR, Dr. Baruch Haim Shalom Of Brookline, MA passed on Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Born April 28, 1930 in Jerusalem, Dr. Mazor was the eldest son of Hacham Raphael Mazor and Farha Haftzadi Mazor. Dr. Mazor served in the elite Palmach military unit during the Israeli War of Independence and was one of the first Kurdish Jews to enter academia. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to attend Harvard University, where he received his doctorate in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. Dr. Mazor went on to teach at several universities before serving as the spiritual leader of Beth Abraham Synagogue of the Sephardic Congregation of New England for over 30 years. Dr. Mazor was the husband of the late Dr. Miriam Dushman Mazor and a loving father to Rachel (Jonathan) of Brooklyn, NY and Raphael (Brad) of Long Beach, CA. Cherished grandfather of Elijah and Naomi and beloved brother of Eliashiv (Adrienne) of Peabody, MA, Baruch was adored by his sisters in Israel, his many nieces and nephews, his devoted caregivers, and the entire Mizrahi-Sephardi community of Greater Boston. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind, an encyclopedic knowledge of Aramaic and Biblical Hebrew, a beautiful singing voice, and unconditional love for his family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 30 at 10:30AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 1668 Beacon Street, BROOKLINE. Following services, interment will be held at the Crawford Street Memorial Park, 776 Baker Street, W. Roxbury. Shiva will begin Saturday night at Beth Abraham Synagogue, 18 Williston Road, Brookline. Shacharit and Mincha/Ma'ariv service times will be provided by Beth Abraham. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7pm on Sunday and Monday at Dr. Mazor's home.
