William Cutter's Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Regarding the Families of Boston and Eastern Massachusetts, 1908, Vol. 4, Pages 2001-2005.

Edward Everett Rutter, son of Major Micah Maynard Rutter (6), was born in Wayland, Massachusetts, January 30, 1851, and spent his boyhood on the farm and was educated in the public schools of his native town. At the age of eighteen years he went to Lawrence, Massachusetts, to learn the plumbing and steam heating business in the employ of his brother, William F. Rutter, who afterward admitted him to partnership, and the firm continued until his death, July 23, 1902. He died at his home in Lawrence, and is buried in Bellevue Cemetery in that city. He was a skillful mechanic and a business man of sound judgment and strict integrity. In national politics Mr. Rutter was a Democrat; in municipal affairs he was independent. He was a member of the Winolancet Lodge of Red Men, of Lawrence. He married, November 5, 1890, Hannah Clara Rogers, born November 27, 1854, daughter of Francis and Hester Ann (George) Rogers. (See George family). Mrs. Rutter spent her youthful years in Iowa, and was educated in the public schools of Fort Atkinson, in Fayette Academy, and in the Medical School of Boston University, where she was graduated in the class of 1879. She began to practice her profession as soon as she came to Lawrence, March 5, 1870, and has continued to the present time with the utmost success. She is a member of the Gynecological and Surgical Society of Massachusetts, the Medical Society of Boston, the Homoeopathic Society of Massachusetts, and the Twentieth Century Society.

Mr. and Mrs. Rutter had two children, born in Lawrence:

...Everett, February 14, 1893,

...Harriet Esther, November 13. 1897. [Family tree note: adopted child, per 1900 census]
