About Dr. Grant Sanger, USN
Dr. Grant Sanger, a surgeon who was an associate professor of clinical surgery at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center for 27 years, died of a heart attack on Thursday while dining at the Harvard Club in Manhattan. He was 81 years old and lived in Mount Kisco, N.Y.
Dr. Sanger was on the staff of Columbia-Presbyterian from 1955 until he retired in 1977.
A son of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, he was a graduate of Princeton University in 1931 and of Cornell University Medical College. He was in the Navy from 1941 to 1946, rising to the rank of Commander. After the war he joined the Mount Kisco Medical Group.
Dr. Sanger was a former board member of the Margaret Sanger Research Bureau, a former member of the Princeton Alumni Council and a former president of the Princeton Rowing Association.
He is survived by his wife, the former Edwina Campbell; three sons, a daughter, and 11 grandchildren.
