"Dr. Guy Cornish Poppy
Mesa - Dr. Guy Cornish Poppy, age 94, passed away February 19, 2018, in Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Marie B. Poppy and his oldest son, David Guy Poppy. He is survived by his children, Gail Hume and her husband Mike, Jo Ellen Burns and her husband Dan, Stephen Craig Poppy and his wife April, Elisabeth Sloan and her husband Bennett, as well as 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Guy was born in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1923. At the beginning of World War II he enlisted in the Navy, becoming a torpedo bomber pilot, flying off the carrier USS Tarawa. While in the Navy he married Marie, and following the war's end they moved to Lansing, Michigan, where Guy enrolled at Michigan State, earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. His first practice was in Illinois, but in 1958 Guy moved his wife and young family to Arizona, establishing a veterinary practice in Phoenix. In 1972 Guy was the President of the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, and in 1973 he was President of the Arizona Council of the Professions.

Guy and Marie found their love of travel and outreach to others kept them busy. The highlight of this was in 1987 when they were able to travel to Zaire (now Congo) where Guy worked as a doctor/anesthesiologist in a missions hospital. Guy was always ready to talk about his faith, his family, and his experiences in aviation.

A memorial service will be held for Dr. Poppy at Trinity Church, 2130 East University Drive, Mesa, Arizona, 85213, in the Myra Chapel on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 1 P.M"
