About Dr. Ivan Konstantinovich Galaktionov
Ivan Konstantinovich Galaktionov was born in 1803, educated at Kodiak and New Archangel (Sitka), and served as a physician, a pharmacists apprentice from the 1820s to 1847 in Novo-Arkhangel’, and school teacher at Atka, beginning in the 1830s. He retired in 1847 after 26 years service with the Russian-American Company. At Atka, he and his wife Natalia had a large family.

According to Atka, An Ethnohistory of the Western Aleutians, by Lydia T. Black, a hospital was built on Atka in 1828, at which point Ivan was given the rank of apprentice physician.
