About Dr. John Grant Crabbe

John grad­u­at­ed from Ohio Wes­ley­an Un­i­ver­si­ty, Del­a­ware, Ohio (AB 1889, Phi Be­ta Kap­pa), and Ohio Un­i­ver­si­ty (mas­ter’s de­gree 1897). He re­ceived hon­or­a­ry de­grees from Be­rea Col­lege (1889), Mi­a­mi Un­i­ver­si­ty (1900), and Ken­tu­cky Un­i­ver­si­ty (1911).

He served as su­per­in­ten­dent of pub­lic schools in Ash­land, Ken­tuc­ky (1890–1907); Re­pub­li­can State Su­per­in­ten­dent of Pub­lic In­struc­tion for Ken­tuc­ky (1907–10); pre­si­dent of the East­ern State Nor­mal School, Rich­mond, Ken­tuc­ky (1910–16); pre­si­dent of the Co­lo­ra­do Nor­mal Col­lege, Gree­ley, Co­lo­ra­do (1916); chai­rman of Ken­tuc­ky’s ed­u­ca­tion­al Com­mit­tee of Ten; chair­man of the Ken­tuc­ky Ed­u­ca­tion­al Com­mis­sion; and on the Ed­u­ca­tion­al Coun­cil of the Na­tion­al Ed­u­ca­tion As­so­ci­a­tion.

John wrote the hymn "Beauty for Ashes."
