Luis Ricardo Alonso was born in Parres, Asturias, Spain in 1929. He was the son of Manuel Alonso Llerandi (Parres, Asturias) and Carmelina Fernandez Teijido (Galicia, Spain). He spent his life between Cuba and Asturias, Spain: he was an AsturCubano. He is a well known author of many books: Territorio Libre, El Candidato (The Candidate), El Palacio y la Furia, El Supremisimo, La Estrella Que Cayo En El Mar, and most recently, La Segunda Muerte de Cristo.
He was popular professor of Spanish and Latina American Language and Literature at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA.
