Dr. Margaret Ann Curry

Dr. Margaret Ann Gourley Curry Dr. Margaret Ann Gourley Curry, former Associate Dean of the University of Dubuque, Iowa died in her home on May 26, 2004. She is returning to her beloved home state of Texas for burial. Friends and family may visit at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 from 5:00PM-9:00PM, and 10:00AM to 12:00PM the following day. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 2:00PM at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Curry was a twentieth century Texas woman of Scot-Irish-French decent who devoted her entire career to the medical field. She is survived by two beloved daughters, Ms. Colleen Powers of Austin, Texas, and Mrs. Charleen McNaught and husband Paul Edward McNaught of Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren, David Charles Driscoll of Los Angeles, California, and Paul Matthew McNaught of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Ms. Betty Jo Gourley of Eugene, Oregon; niece, Diane Moore of Harrisburg, Oregon; nephew, Danny Davis; cousin, Lady Jane Dolive and husband Don of Mesquite, Texas and their son, Mark Dolive also of Mesquite. Dr. Curry was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Herbert Gourley and Jetty Belle Moreland Gourley of Austin, Texas and her uncle and aunt, Leo and Elizabeth Gourley of Athens, Texas. Her career began in the United States Cadet Nurse Corp., Houston, Texas and later graduated from the California State University at Los Angeles. She earned a Masters Degree from U.C.L.A., and a Ph.D. From Kansas State University at Manhatton. While living on the East Coast, she completed extensive post graduate study at Columbia University Teachers College, New York City. Professional memberships include Sigma Theta Tau (U.C.L.A. and University of Dubuque) and Phi Delta Kappa. Three years of volunteer work was devoted to children in England. She was listed in Who’s Who of American Women, 1985, 1986, 1990. The last twenty five years of her career, Dr. Curry earned professorial standing in the field of professional nursing, teaching at the University of Texas, Wichita State University, Kansas, Radford University in Virginia, and the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette. She completed her career in full professorship at the University of Dubuque, Iowa, Director of Nursing. Dr. Curry became a born again Christian in 1953 and attended the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Austin with her family. She has been affiliated also with the Baptist and Methodist Church.
