Dr. Mehemiah Cleaveland entered the Continental army, field and staff, 1775, with his father's reg. at Cambridge. Enlisted 1777 about 1 year.
He studied medicine with Dr. John Manning of Ipswich. Dr. Parker Cleaveland, (I believe this to be a miss print, I believe it should be Dr.Nehemiah Cleaveland, as it is under his name in the book and under Parker Cleaveland it said that he was self taught and never went to college)entered practice in Topsfield in 1783, and was a physician there to 1824. In 1828 received M. D. from Harvard college.
Federalist in politics. He was elected State senator 1811. Owing to the "geerymander law" he was not elected again until 1815, and continued toserve until 1819, then declined to be a candidate longer.
He was session Justice Circuit Court of Common Pleas in 1814, Associate Justice of the Court of Sessions of Essex Co. 1820 to 1822. Chief Justice1823 to 1828. Commissioner of the county over 20 years.
