Brief overview:
Roelof (59), a doctor who practiced in Van der Stel Street, Tulbagh, Western Cape, was found dead with multiple stab wounds, by a local couple and their children, on Schalkenbosch Road, on Monday 1st June 2020, at 18h45.
He was attacked by four assailants, reportedly after having been out clay pigeon shooting on his farm.
Community activist at the Witzenberg Justice Coalition Winston Pietersen said residents were in shock after learning of Botha's murder. "He was a very good doctor, and a kind man, and also helped patients with disabled grants," Pietersen reportedly said.
04/06/2020 - The local magistrate's court heard that Aiden Abels (27) admitted to using a pair of sheep shears to kill Dr Roelof Botha. Abels' co-accused are Justin Adonis (30), Andrew Gouws (30), as well as a 17-year-old girl. She cannot be identified because she is a minor and will reportedly be housed in a youth centre until she turns 18 in October. The three men have reportedly applied for legal aid and will appear in court again on 9th June 2020.

- 02/06/2020 - Four suspects were arrested. "Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk told Maroela Media on Tuesday afternoon that four suspects, all aged between 20 and 35, were arrested in connection with the murder. This was after police earlier questioned a person (34) of interest."

- 9th June 2020 - Aiden Abels (27), Justin Adonis (30), Andrew Gouws (30), and a 17-year-old girl appeared in the local magistrate's court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Botha when the girl indicated she was applying for bail. Abels, Adonis and Gouws will not apply for bail and are expected to appear in court again on July 28th. A charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances would then be added to the murder charge in the case of all three, Ntabazalila confirmed.
