About Dr. Solomon (Shlomo) Schefler

Gifted child and brilliant student. His father's favorite son.He started his studies at the "Heder" with his brothers, at the age of 3 speaking fluent Hebrew. Till the age of 20, head of the Ha'Shomer Ha'Tzair Zionist movment in north Romania .

Left Romania at the age of 20 (1929) to study Medicine in Paris.Brilliant medical student- finished Second Prize in his series at the Sorbonne.

Visited his parents in Romania in 1932-1933 before his mother's death in 1935.

During the following years he worked as a doctor in France.

He met Odette, a Catholic nurse and fell in love with her. He wrote his family asking his father for the permission to marry her.

His father - Berl Schefler- an observant Hassidic Jew, wrote to him that he could do as he pleased but if he married her, the entire family would sit Shiv'aa after him, pronouncing him dead!

Odette left the hospital and the city, and they never met again, but he never forgot her, counting the days and hours since their final meeting.Odette died young of cancer.

During World War II he was hidden by Raymonde - a nurse at his hospital, divorced and mother of a daughter Danielle, in her apartment in Paris.In hiding he suffered of a lung disease and lost a lung.

He joined the Maquis (French Underground) and got the code-name "Andre"specilizing in forging Nazi stamps.

After the war he recieved the "Croix de Guerre" for his bravery.

He married Raymonde who was a Christian but only after his father's death.

For many years until his retirement he was professional manager of a hospital - Hopital Villemin at Angicourt (Oise)), specializing in lung-diseases.

His doctorial thesis was : "Valeur pronostique des nettoyages radiologiques chez les tuberculeux pulmonaires" (Paris, Impr. Studio, 1937) He appears in the "Journal Officiel de la Republique Francaise - Lois et Decrets, 1938/09/11 (Annee 70 No. 213 1663614 : M. Salomon Schefler de la 22 section d'infirmiers....
