About Dr. Vladislav/Peter Fleming, MD
Edward Fuchs '74 sent along a note about the passing of a classmate of ours. "I believe he graduated under the name Peter Fleming," he writes, "although right up until graduation his name was Vladislav Gociar. Everyone called him Vladia. After deciding to go to medical school, he felt his name would be difficult for patients to handle, so he legally changed it (it was amusing at the time that he picked his new name out of the Cambridge phone directory!). He lived on 1st West of East Campus. After graduating from MIT, he attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and, ultimately, became an ophthalmologist, having practices in Manhattan and in NJ, until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about two years ago. He died Aug. 9 in New York. He is survived by both of his parents, his wife, Joyce, his daughter, Lisa, and his sister, Eva."
