It appears that Josef had fled to France with his wife Elsa and son Erich but somehow managed to evade being rounded up in the 1942 "rafles d'aoüt" in the Nice area.
Much later he was arrested and sent to Drancy for further deportation to Auschwitz.
On the Mémorial de la Shoah website he is listed as a lyawyer, having lived at 7, rue Asselet, Nice and placed on Convoi # 69.
