From Ashe County-A History by Fletcher The Senter Baptist Association was formed at a convention held at Senter Church in Ashe County, named for the renowned Elder Drewry (sp.var.) Senter, and his equally famous son, Elder Nathaniel Senter. The convention met on October 21, 1853, and when it had finished its labours there was a new Association - the Senter, named for the two preachers. The Association was made up of four churches from the Three Forks Association (Bear Creek, Beaver Creek, North Fork and Horse Creek) and five from the Mountain Association (Big Helton, Silas Creek, South Fork, Senter, and Cranberry). To the credit of the Senter Association is the first recorded action toward bettering educational facilities in Ashe County. (They had planned to erect a school, but the Civil War forced abandonment of the idea.)
