About Duane B Amstutz

DALTON — Duane B. Amstutz, 93, of Dalton, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at his home, surrounded by loving family.

He was born June 12, 1924, in Dalton to the late Daniel B. and Fannie Elizabeth (Zaugg) Amstutz, and was a life resident of the Dalton area.

Duane graduated from Dalton High School in the class of 1942 and married Melinda Marie Kamp on Aug. 21, 1948. She survives.

He was a truck driver for Spector Freight System for many years and also worked for various woodworking shops.

He was an active member of Kidron Mennonite Church, and enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, gardening, woodworking, listening to music, especially hymns and classical and was a Cleveland sports fan. He was a member of Teamsters Retirees Club of Canton, Local 92.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Cheryl D. (Tom) Michaels and Linda M. Amstutz, both of Dalton, Duane B. (Karen) Amstutz of Raleigh, N.C., Charles R. Amstutz of Montgomery and Annette E. (Jay) Halley of Sandusky; grandchildren, John (Christi) Michaels and Andrew (Christy) Michaels, both of Orrville, Celeste Leich of Washington, D.C., Taryn (Collin) Backus of Raleigh, N.C., Alyson Amstutz of Columbus, Daniel Halley of Cleveland, Matthew Halley of Akron and Anna Halley of Columbus; step-grandchildren, Lindsay (James) Hobgood and Shelby Willard, both of Raleigh, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clayton and Clarence Amstutz; and sisters, Anna Amstutz, Ella Rohrer, Emma Gonter, Mary Jeanne Schafrath, Pauline Miller, Leona Hostetler, Arlene Steiner and LaVera Amstutz; and great-grandson, Nathaniel Levi Michaels.

Services will be Friday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at Kidron Mennonite Church, 3987 Kidron Road, Kidron, with pastor Carl Wiebe officiating. Burial will be in Kidron Mennonite Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 7 from 5-7 p.m. at the church, or one hour prior to the service Friday.
