Earl Delano Stevens was born on May 26, 1934 in Valley City, ND, the son of Alfred and Myrtle (Thompson) Stevens. He only weighed about a pound when he was born and was sent home in a shoebox. His family lived in Valley City for a time before moving to a farm near Valley City where he grew up and attended rural school. He farmed with his father following his schooling. Earl joined the US Army and was stationed in Colorado and Germany. When he returned home, he farmed with his father again.

On October 3, 1959, he married Shirley Roberg at First Lutheran Church in Valley City, ND. They made their home in Hastings, ND where he worked at the elevator. They moved to McKenzie, ND where he managed the elevator. After a time there, they moved to Kathryn where he was the elevator manager. When he "retired" from the elevator business, he drove truck for Meyer Milk for 9 years and worked for Barnes County Parks.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kathryn. Some of the things Earl enjoyed were reading, hunting, and watching westerns. He loved the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandkids.

Earl is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Todd of Litchville, ND; daughter, Dawn (Roger) Lausch of Hannaford, ND; grandsons, Cody and Trevor Lausch; brothers, James (Virginia) Stevens of Kathryn and Merrill (Gladys) Stevens of Valley City, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Milo and Michael; and sister, Joyce Wallner.
