Ebenezer is a 5th generation direct descendent of Lawrence Copeland (Abt. 1599-1699) and a 6th generation direct descendent of John Alden (Mayflower). He is the son of William Copeland (1730-1797) and Sarah Smith Copeland (1735-1786). He is the brother of Phineas Copeland, William Copeland, Jonathan Copeland, Sally Copeland, Thankful Copeland, Asa Copeland, Abner Copeland, David Copeland, Delano Copeland, Smith Copeland, Anne Copeland, Daniel Copeland and Henry Copeland. He is half-brother to Rachel Copeland.
Ebenezer married first Lucy Fassett. Their children were Orsa Copeland, Harvey Copeland, Anna Copeland, Asa Copeland, Laura Copeland, James Copeland, Daniel Copeland and Mary Copeland. He married second Prudence Cook. Their children were Charles Cook Copeland, Ebenezer Copeland, Sarah Smith Copeland, Esther Amelia Copeland, Aurilla Prudence Copeland and Fayette Cook Copeland.
