About Edmund Scarburgh
No record exists of Col. Edmund Scarburgh the younger having a son Edmund in 1716. His brother Mitchell Scarburgh did have such a son in that year.
Edmund Scarburgh, son of Mitchell Scarburgh and Dorothy Wainhouse was born Aug. 19, 1716 at Accomack Co, VA.
He married Mary Knott on 28 March 1751 at Nansemond Co, VA. (But they had no surviving children.)
He made a will on 4 February 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. He named a wife Mary; John Scarburgh the under age son of Americus Scarburgh; sisters Sarah Scarburgh and Mary Stewart; Rosanna Bayly (relationship not noted); and cousin Susanna Stuart. The land purchased of William Read was to be sold and 1/3 of proceeds to his wife. His wife was to have land at Pungoteague till John Scarburgh comes to lawful age. Balance of money from sale of land was to be divided between my sister Sarah Scarburgh, Rosanna Bayly and sister Mary Stewart's children. His Pungoteague land was to go to John Scarburgh, son of Americus Scarburgh. His wife Mary was named the executrix. Witnesses were Henry Gascoyne, William Gascoyne and Teackle Waltham. (Note: It is assumed that the named Rosanna Bayly was the daughter of his sister Dorothy who had been married to Edmund Bayly, according to his father's will.)
Edmund died before 24 April 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was proved. Mary Scarburgh, widow of the testator, refused to qualify, so Americus Scarburgh qualifed.
