Edward was one of four sons born to Rev. Ole Anderson and first wife Sidsel Bergh in Norway.
Edward's mother died in childbirth in 1854 and was buried together with the infant on December 24, 1854.
Edward's father remarried to Anne Gorina, and the family emigrated out of Norway in 1860 to Minnesota.
Edward married his first cousin, Mathea (Thea) Jensdatter Branes (1853- 1886). She and five of their children all died in 1886 of the Black Diptheria. The other five all died in their youth. That wife and children are all buried at Solor Lutheran Cemetery at Webster, MN where the family lived on a farm.

Edward worked as a Christian layman. He farmed and raised his second family in Round Hikll, Alberta. He is buried at Cereal, AB Cemetery, per Dorothy Bergh Steinberg's family history book.
