About Edward Durwood
Businessman. Operated a chain of indoor and drive-in movie theatres in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Son Stanley also worked in the family business, becoming President of Durwood Theatres after the death of his father in 1960. Stanley Durwood introduced the world's first four-plex theatre, followed by the first six-plex theatre in 1969. The company expanded into Arizona, California, Nebraska and Texas, and was incorporated as American Multi-Cinema, Inc., in honor of its signature facility, the multiplex.
