About Edward Earp

Alice BASS may have married EDWARD EARP, whose first wife was Elizabeth Somerset, daughter of Seymore Somerset. (Or if not, she may have married a member of his family.)

Edward Earp was a neighbor of John Bass, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth (possibly Elizabeth Winborn):

Deed Book 1 page 343

4 March 1748 John Bass and Elizabeth Bass of Northampton County planter to William Winborn of Nansemond County, Virginia planter 60 pounds current Virginia money for 150 acres on the north side of Roanoke river in Uraha woods joining Matthew Thomas, Edward Earp, and a branch part of a patent to Henry Sims for 360 acres granted May 01,1719, all houses, buildings, stables, orchards, pastures, fences, etc. Wit: Thomas Flanner, James Osborne, Jacob Bass. Reg: Northampton County May 1748 *

This was part of a patent granted to Henry Sims.

Edward Earp and William Winborn witnessed the will of Seymore Somerset in 1751:

SOMERSET, SEYMORE December 20, 1751. February Court, 1752. Sons: John ("my plantation"), Seymore. Daughters: Easter Somersett, Elizabeth Earp (Executrix). Witnesses: Edward Earp, Manual Earp, Wm. Winborne. Clerk of the Court: I. Edwards. (Source: Abstracts of North Carolina Wills, By: J. Bryan Grimes, Secretary of State, 1910, Page 352)

Edward Earp also had three children with Susannah Lucas Ballenger.

There is one Deed of Gift in Johnston Co in which Edward names his "natural" children: Cullen Ballenger, William Ballenger and Cary Ballenger. In Edward's 1784 Wake Co will, he again uses the last name Ballenger. Sometines the children are shown as Ballenger, sometimes as Lucas and sometimes as Earp.
