Edward "Ed" Rothman passed away on July 20, 2003. Patriarch of his loving family, died - as he had lived - with strength and dignity. Ed was born on October 19, 1923. He attended P.S. 64 and DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, NY. He entered Harvard University in 1941, where he received his B.S. and J.D. degrees (with time off from 1943 to 1946 to help win World War II.) Ed married the love of his life, journalist and author Marcy Elias, in 1951, and together they shared over 50 years of joy and laughter. Ed was an entertainment attorney for over 40 years, culminating his career as Vice President of Universal Pictures. He leaves his wife, Marcy Elias Rothman; adoring children, Jim (Carol; son, Chris), Robb (Mary), and Mimi Schapiro (Morty); grandchildren, Matt, Meredith, Alissa, Stephanie, and Rachel; brother, Richard (Louise; son, Mark); sister, Rita Heller (Marvin; daughter, Laurie, and son, Bobby); many nieces and nephews; and his "adopted" daughter, Robin Davis. His family and friends will miss his tremendous strength, his wise and loving counsel, and his wonderful sense of humor. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at 1:00 PM, at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tower Hematology Oncology - Cancer Research Foundation, attention: Dr. Robert Decker.
Ed was a longtime Universal Pictures executive, he died at his Los Angeles home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer: He was 79. A native New Yorker and Harvard Law School graduate he was a leading showbiz lawyer who spent 25 years with MCA Universal. Before that he was an attorney with Intl. Famous Agency. During his 41-year career in entertainment law, he held executive positions with 20th Century Fox and ZIV TV.
