About Edward Ellis
His mother died when he was but five years old. Eva Cragun Heiner's book states that he was a
quiet, gentle and obedient child, and was helpful, especially in making the preparations for his
family's trip to America.
Upon arriving in Pennsylvania in 1867 he obtained work as a coachman and hostler for a
gentleman in Germantown, to help finance the trip west to the mountains & Utah.118
In his late teens, he found work in Oregon for a time. When he returned to Utah, he met and
married a widow with two children whom he helped to raise. He never had a child of his own.
In his late years he became blind with cataracts, but was patient and never complaining.
