Last night's casualty list contains the name of Cpl. Edward St. George (Jack) Gorton, who fell in action in France on 11th January. He was the youngest son of the late Lt.-Cnl. Gorton of Rangitikei, an Imperial officer who came to the Dominion at the tirpe of the Mlaori "War. Cpl. Gorton was ranching in tha Argentine when war, broke out, but he left directly for England, where he enlisted with the British settion of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. He took part in the landing at the Dardanelles, and was on the Peninsula for a considerable time until he was wounded by shrapnel and removed-to hospital in Egypt, where he remained for several months. He returned to Gallipoli and fought through the remainder of the campaign Until the evacuation, when he moved with his unit to the Western front. .
