About Edward Guilford
Started work as apprentice blacksmith on the London and Brighton Railway. Changed career and became a missionary in India. He was known as 'Guilford of Tarn Taran', a leper colony. Spoke fluent Punjabi and translated the first version of the Book of Psalms to appear in Punjabi.OBE, Kaisar-i-Hindi medal 1st class. Head of Army recruitment in India. Wrote the definitive Victorian work on Sikhism "Streaks of Light in the Mahnja Country"
